I seem to remember reading that you can network 2 PCs simply using a USB 2.0 cable. Is this true, or is this purely for transferring files (as opposed to gameplay, etc? Does it work with firewire too? How do you set it up? How fast could the connection be expected to be?

You cant use a standard USB cable it will have to be a PC to PC USB Network Bridge. It would be cheaper to just shove a network card in them both and get a X over cable.
