networking and sharing a dial up connection

Help please ! I have a laptop and a PC linked together via a network cable. I can access the printer and both hard drives from either computer. Now for the tricky bit, I use the PC to dial up via NTLworld and thought I had set it all up for sharing between computers. when I launch IE on the laptop, my PC dials up and gains access to the internet, but IE on the laptop does not seem to be able to access it, even though it asked for the call. Can anyone offer any suggestions ?
