I've linked my two pcs (both running W98SE)with a crossover LAN cable and setup up the two network adaptors as per instructions. Both devices ping correctly but neither pc can see the other. The 'Workgroup' I.D. are identical and the computer names are different so the problem isn't there. It looks like some sort of hardware prob. - I've changed the LAN cable for another new one of a different make thinking that the problem may lie there, but still no go.Any thoughts anyone??
if they can ping each other i would rule out a hardware problem have you enabled file and printer sharing
Yes I have enabled file and printer sharing. The ping tests work for the adaptor in the particular computer but cannot reach the 'other' pc.
so you can ping one machine but not the other have you a firewall running if so disable it then send another ping
Many thanks Terrahawk - the firewall was the problem - now I have to just address some other problems.....!
