Networking printers

I have recently set up a wireless network between my PC and a wireless laptop. I can share files and I can see both computers on the network but I'm having a problem networking my printer. My printer on my desktop is set to "share" with the laptop, but on the laptop, when I went to set up the "Add Printer icon, I clicked the "Network printer" option and got to the page where it says" Browse for printer" and although it shows the complete network, when I clicked to find the printer, nothing was found. I am sure I am missing something really basic here, but it's really frustrating!

My standard "blurb" on networking printers ;)

1) Connect the printer to the “client” PC, as though it were to be used with that computer, and install it. This ensures that it has all the necessary software/drivers on board.

2) Reconnect it to the "host" PC and, in its Properties, set it as "shared". In the client’s "My Network Places" (or Network Neighborhood), the printer should then appear as a shared resource of the "host" PC along with any shared folders. Double clicking the printer in the remote PC should automatically install it as a "network printer" in the “client”. This means that the “client” now has the same printer installed twice – once as a “local” printer and again as a “network” printer (with a bar under the icon to indicate a network device). If you are always going to print via the network, you may want to set the "network printer" as the default.

Otherwise, have a look at this Microsoft article. It is an old article written for Windows 95, but the basic principle for installing the network printer should still be valid.

Check that the required printer is set to be shared on the host computer. Give it a suitable share name such as "Canon on Computer 1". On the other computer From Faxes & Printers click add new printer. The wizard starts and on page 2 select the second radio button - "Connect to this printer...." now browse and double click the network name then the computer and it should appear. The resultant path should be something like \\Computer1\Canon on Computer 1.
