networking printer

I have a canon i865 printer installed on my win xp pro, athlon 2400 pc, but via my home network I cant get the printer to print from my win 98se, pentium 3 500 pc, I have contacted canon & they say a "peer to peer network MUST have the same operating system to be a peer to peer network" I didn't think this was the case for peer to peer, however from the win 98se pc, I can actually carry out a print head alignment, which prints fancy colour pattern & I can print the nozzle check pattern, any ideas why I can't print a document from it. Canon dont seem to be the answer here unfortunately.

See if this is of any help - 'Networking between WindowsXP and Windows95/98/ME' - click here - read & follow the whole article especially '2) Install File-and-Printer Sharing'.
