Networking Advice Needed

I have two Pc's. One runs Win200 and has a standard CD-Rom drive. The other runs XP and has a CD-Writer. The Win2000 has a network card the XP does not. They both have 56k modems.

What do I need to do to network these two together?

Easiest way if you want to go wired is to remove the modem from the 2K machine and shove a £5 network card in instead. Buy yourself a crossover cable £3, and off you go.

A PCI 10/100 network card for the XP PC and a cat 5 crossover cable (assuming the network card in your other PC has an RJ45 connector. Total cost around £10. More if the cable is more than a couple of metres in length. Make sure you get a crossover cable, not a straight through.
For a very good guide to networking go to the netgear site click here and look in the support section.
