networking

the main computer is downstairs and my son has just got his own computer in his bedroom he wants to connect to the internet through my computer
is there any limits to the length of connecting wire can be and is the signal compromised over any certain lengths
i am on broadband
any suggestions welcome

Anything up to about 30 metres should be ok with cat5 cable.

100 meters is limit and keep run away from electric wiring ,flourecent lights .

remember that your computer would have to be on anytime you son wanted to go on the net...
