Network and Email

I have a small network of 3 pc's and a printer connected via a router. But although I can get an internet connection on one of the "slave pc's" using my Zoom ISP connection, I cannot get to send/receive email, it shows the "failed to connect to server" error message. I have tried disabling the Norton AV but to no avail. Is this a problem with the network settings ?

You don't say if you are using Outlook/Express or an Internet based E-mail account.

Check your DNS settings and that DHCP is set to automatic obtain an IP address.

Another thing to check is the Firewall, as you have not stated which OS you are using it could have been the XP firewall that was not disabled when configuring the network? That is if you are using XP?

The system is Windows 98 with Outlook Express 5.5. The TCP/IP is set to "server assigned"
