Network Connections "advanced" tab

I am using Win XP Home and have a cable connection using a Motorola Surfboard 2400 USB cable modem.
In the Network Connections properties for this device, the Advanced tab says "Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) information might be corrupted. To correct this, use Windows Restore .........etc"
The properties on the advanced tab include the Win XP firewall. I am using Norton Internet Security so I am not actually worried about my data etc; however I would like to have the connection uncorrupted. I am not able to use a restore point as my system restore had to be reset following a virus alert.
I would appreciate any proceedure to restore this connection.
