I have just been given a second hand laptop, When I try to connect to my wireless network it recognises it & says strength is excellent but it won't find the IP address - can anyone help?

Don't know if any of this helps,

It's one of those things where you need the PC in front of you. What happens if you right click the system tray icon and try to connect there.

Is the router security enabled ? Have you entered the key on the laptop.

Was it XP or Vista ?

Try 'Right' clicking the icon in the task bar and in the pop-up menu click 'Repair' and Windows will attempt to connect you.
