network cable unplugged

Hi there, hope yo guys can help me out cos I'm stumped. I made my first computer at christmas and having just come back from a long trip away I want to get to grips with Battlefield 2 and kill some gooks online. However, I can't and I reckon this is the problem - my network cable is unplugged in 'Network Connections'. Is this because I didn't buy a Network card? Should I buy one? Here's my vital statistics:
AMD 3800+
Asus A8NSLI Premium Mobo
Winfast PX6800 GT
NO Network card
If you can help I would greatly appreciate it, thank you very much.

For that message to appear, you must have an Ethernet LAN port somewhere, probably built in to the mainboard. You'll find it in your Network Connections folder, so if you don't use it, just disable it. Problem solved. It is a very annoying little pop-up if you don't happen to keep the PC on a wired LAN.

And if the adapter is not listed in the form of a connection in that folder, it will be in Device manager, so you can select disable from there instead.
