What Cable should I use for a gigabit Network? Ideally it should be CAT 6 but I really wanted shielded and that stuff is rare and costs ££££, Is Cat5E STP Ok to use, am i right in saying that there isn't really a big difference?

Thanks Andy

Cat 5e will work, but why do you want shielded?

If it's a question of interference, just use shielded at that point and standard cable for the remainder. You are also introducing an added complication of earthing the shield.

There is quite a big difference both in physical size and the structure of the twisting (twists per metre).

Personally, I use Cat 6 UTP for Gigabit networks.
