netgear wireless card

i have a netgear router with lan and wireless capabilities, everything works fine on the wired part, the computers connected are not networked just shate broadband connection.
i baught a netgear ma521 wireless card and although every thing is installed it even shows connection strength yet it would not connect to the internet or ping just times out, netgear people tried everything to no avail, this laptop is running 98 se. any ideas? or suggestion to see if there is anymore to try

Are you getting the correct IP address of the router via start/run/winipcfg

yes i get the address for the laptop not the router also the mac address of the router although the router is using the mac address of tne pc to which it is connected
