Netgear NICs

I am starting a home network and I need some network interface cards. Netgear has been recommended to me.

I was looking at the FA311 and FA312 click here

The only difference I can see is that the FA312 has "Wake On LAN using ACPI Remote Wake Up and Magic Packet standard".

I'm lost. Can anyone help explain this to me?

Wake on Lan is typically used by a PC set up as a low-activity server. It allows the PC to 'sleep', but to be 'woken' by the NIC if it receives incoming network traffic. Not very useful for the average user.

I use both, and simply disable the Wake on Lan feature.
