I have spent hours trying to configure a netgear ma111 usb adaptor for a friend on his home network but am unable to get the netgear configuration utility to run. Checked task manager and the utility is running but it is not visible in the tray.

Sytem is xp home aftre a clean re-install. Have checked that the adaptor is not controlled by windows and have unchecked that option but still cannot get access to the utility.

Windows hardware recognises the adaptor and always gives it a private ip address.
Have also ensured that all windows networking services are loaded.

dont know what to check now as these adaptors are usually so easy to install.

If your friends computer has an AMD processor it may be worth contacting Netgear. Some of their equipment does have conflicts with AMD systems.

I found them very helpful and when I gave the specification of the computer they offered alternative cards or a refund.
