Netbook unable to start

  scarecrow-bill 15:56 23 Nov 10

I have a dell netbook that will not boot,
on start up a message appears saying:

file missing or corrupt:
Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

How do I re-install a copy of this file I have no disks for this machine but I do have a copy of windows xp (used on another machine).

Could I use this disk and if so how?
(the licence key for the netbook is unreadable as the sticker is on the bottom of the machine and has become worn).

Have you tryed the start up repair from the disk?
that might fix it.
