net conectio problem

using xp home sp2, HP pc with NTL cable modem; had to format and reinstall now cannot connect to the web, in the network conections box the only connection is 1394 conection which is conected but does not conect to the web, there is also no LAN option, all suggestions gratefully accepted

if your cable modem connects by ethernet you will have to make sure that the ethernet driver has been installed. Have you run the mobo cd to put the drivers on? Then with a cable modem if you do big changes the modem has to be switched off and then allowed to reset. I spent many an hour trying to connect with one of these before finding out all needed was the switchoff.

dont have a mb cd but have downloaded the drivers using a laptop and key now everything is fine, thanks howard64 for your advice and help
