nero verification process reliable?

if a disc fails in the nero verification process how serious should i take it-some forums seem to comment on the 'fact' that even touching your mouse whilst nero is burning or checking the disc can come up with errors during verification which can cause an overall fail? are there better programs to use which can compare both discs when backing up for eg, or should i just try more burns at a slower speed to try and avoid problems? my drive can burn at 16x but perhaps its best to reduce

I think it depends on the quality of the media and the burn speed, I never burn anything at more than half the maximum rate supported by the media and have had no problems yet. I'd rather have a useable disc burned in 4 minutes than a coaster burned in 2 minutes.
