Every time I try to open Nero Burning ROM, either directly or from StartSmart, I get "nero.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried a system restore and a reinstall of nero but still have the same problem. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Upgrading to a newer version cured it for me,

I should have said - I've tried that and get the message that there's nothing to update to.

When Nero 7 was first released it had this problem and the fix, before updates were available, was to run it in Windows 2000 compatibilty mode so you could try that.

Try removing nero completely, download and installing the latest update as a clean install. And using your licence number

I was about to ask you how to do that - I can't work it out - when I saw jimv7's post - I knew how to do that.

jimv7 - I uninstalled, ran ccleaner and downloaded the update as you suggested (somehow it knew my licence number) and it worked.

Many thanks - I'll tick as resolved.
