Quote off that website, "This software is for research purposes only. DO NOT download this if you are planning on using it for ANY other purpose because it is already EXPIRED."

My Quote, "You still need a SERIAL Number".

If you have free copy of nero the serial can be found

Where is the Nero/NeroExpress serial number located?
• For the Nero retail version, the serial number is located on the back side of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in.
• For OEM version, the serial number is located on the back side of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in.
• For OEM bundles, such as Yamaha, TDK, Memorex, Lite-On, etc. you do not need a serial number, as it is embedded and will install automatically. After a successful installation, you can find your serial number located in your registry.
Follow the steps below in order to locate it:
1) Click on ´Start --> Run´ and type in ´REGEDIT´.
2) Click on ´OK´, which opens the Registry Editor.
3) Click on the folders ´HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> AHEAD --> NERO BURNING-ROM --> INFO´.
4) You will see your serial number on the right-hand side of the Registry Editor, with following name (related to the respective version you have): Serial4, Serial5 or Serial6
This entry looks as follows:
15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 5)
1Axx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 6)
Please note the number

No, you don't. Trust me!

But it is still not freeware - it's been provided by the manufacturer of an optical drive who has paid for the right to do so.

Such OEM software was normally/usually tailored to each manufacturer and could be updated as normal from the Ahead website.

I think you are reading it wrong.

Lots of software says "free download".

That's true! You can download it for free but you have to pay for it before you can use it.

The link from brundle above for Nero 6.6.1.15c actually says:

"You cannot install Nero 6 if you do not have a valid serial number!"

I bought my version 6 from SVP a long time ago and have regularly updated since.

SVP are now selling Version 7 for £4.98
