When a customer of mine switches on the machine, it boots into windows and says expl32 system error, unable to open dialogue.

I have searched the great MS knowledge base and yet it seems to have no problem recorded with this message. If you close the error box it apparently works ok. I havn't looked at the machine as yet.

I am told it had a trojan virus before this problem, norton fixed 12 files and quarantined 2.

Tell him/her to open regedit and from find (edit/find) type "expl32.exe" and "expl32a.exe. It would appear that these two are also trojans.

Before you do the above, from regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Highlight the folder and the startup group will be displayed.. is expl32.exe there? if so delete it and then follow the above.
