Need help installing windows xp on sata hard drive

  Brian_William 07:32 10 Mar 07

I bought a sata hard drive to replace all hard drives on my computer, I tried to install windows xp on the sata hard drive and windows could not format the hard drive.

I have been reading on other forums that I need sata drivers to be installed at the start of installation but I cannot find sata drivers on my motherboard cd or Foxconn website.

My Motherboard is a Foxconn 865PE7AF-S

This might be a stupid question, but did you have two connectioning leads on your Sata drive as mine arrived with only one and the Data lead was not in the box.I had to buy one for £1.50 before it worked.

If you have windows on another drive on this PC, go to Administrative Tools in Control Panel, Double click 'Computer Mangement' and select 'Disk Management' in the left pane. From here, you should be able to format the new drive, ready for a windows installation. Remember to format it as a basic drive not a dynamic one. SATA drives should be very easy to install and use, you shouldn't need any m/b drivers before a windows install afaik.
