Need to abort Vista Full Recovery

I have had to resort to doing a full recovery from a recovery partition (SONY VAIO DESKTOP) , due to a blue screen error encountered when Windows is starting up.

Part of the recovery process , however , requires Windows to start normally - it can't do this as it hits the blue screen mentioned above - so a bit of a chicken and egg situation here !!

Can 'F8' into Safe Mode BUT can't get past message saying that Recovery process can't continue in Safe Mode.

Is there a way to rollback the Recovery process so that at least I can get back in via Safe Mode again ?
