NEC 2500a Burning problem

I have an NEC2500a (8x) dvd/rw with an unusual burning issue.

The problem i am getting is that when i burn a DVD image at greater then 4x i get a visible line on the DVD disc where the writer has increased it's speed from an initial 4x to 6x during the burn process.

It's quite difficult to explain but for some reason Nero (or whatever copy program i use) starts the burn process at 4x then 25% in it increases to 6x and then upto 8x at around 60%.These lines are occuring each time the speed increases.

Not so much a problem but what i have noticed is that the DVD/RW really struggles to read through these lines on playback, sometimes resulting in total failiure.

So,my question is;have i set up this writer incorrectly,or is it faulty?

Oh,i'm using Ridisc (blue) 8x media and generally burn at 6 speed

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks and regards
