My Sound Input has gone...

IBM Aptiva 2139 E57.
External CD writer plays audio CDs OK.
Internal CD (non writing) will not play audio, but reads data etc.
Line In & Line Out do not appear to be functioning, nor are they shown on the PC.
This means there is no way I can get tapes, vinyls, etc into the PC fro recording/editing.
The Line in/Out was working. However a hard drive failure meant everything had to be reloaded from original CDs...
Have I missed something out, and where do I look for it.
PLease help; I've promised to put some tapes to CD for a friend who is moving away next month. I'll be in the dog house!
Thanks in anticipation.

aren't these usually on the soundcard? Line in and out? If they are, then i would try and reload the sound drivers.
