my laptop cant read cds anymore??

I have a toshiba satellite pro a60, windows xp pro.

I cant read any cds anymore?

When i put in any cd in - music, picutres ...
and then when i open the cd drive from my computer, the cd drive has nothing init??

Any ideas ??

Could be that the laser has come to the end of its lifetime.

Try Uninstalling the optical drive in Device Manager and then Rebooting; Windows will Find New Hardware and reinstall the basic CDROM driver.

If it doesn't work then either the laser has gone or the cabling is not firmly connected, although this is probably unlikely with a laptop.

a laser cleaner, try that if that doesnt resolve the problem then then the optical drive has definetly had it.

You may have to buy another and get somone to install it for you, or you can get some that are usb operated. wclick here i think do some

I had the same problem on my toshiba l20 laptop. This was a dual laser it played dvds and cds and was would record, cd music but it packed in within 3 months the warrnety had run out.
