When i go in my computer, my documents are missing. It shows my parents documents. It has only recently disappeared and its permanently gone.

Is this a setting thats changed? Or has something been deleted by accident?

Cheers

STEP 1:

START > RUN > REGEDIT >

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Current Version / Explorer / DocFolderPaths

Once you click the DocFolderPaths folder you should see all the user's folders.

STEP 2:

Add a new string value

Value Name: your user name

Value Data: the path to your docs folder ( ex. C:\Documents and Settings\your docs folder )

Exit Registry editor and open my computer, your docs folder should now be visable.

If you are happy to go into the registry
(backup before you start)
STEP 1:

START > RUN > REGEDIT >

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Current Version / Explorer / DocFolderPaths

Once you click the DocFolderPaths folder you should see all the user's folders.

STEP 2:

Add a new string value

Value Name: your user name

Value Data: the path to your docs folder ( ex. C:\Documents and Settings\your docs folder )

Exit Registry editor and open my computer, your docs folder should now be visable.

What Fruit Bat /\0/\ says then..

That regedit didnt work. I did as you said and it says

c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regedit.com
The NTVDM CPU has encounted an illegal instruction

There is no reason why the reg fix should not work unless there is some sort of third party corruption going on, it maybe spyware related, all i can suggest is to do a full scan of your PC and try again.

the links below will point you towards some more than useful tools (all free) that may help..

complete scans, reboot PC, login with admin rights and try the fix again..

Perhaps one of your parents deleted yours by mistake?
Is it your computer?

  Robotic_Rob 14:30 02 Sep 06

Yeah its my computer. And im the only admin, parents are on a limited account.

It still hasn't worked. A little black window pops up for a few seconds and then it disappears.

Try the registry fix again..

  SANTOS7 16:22 03 Sep 06

if reg fix fails try

Right-Click on the Start button, select Properties.
On the Start Menu tab, click on the Customize button.
Under the Advanced tab, you will find a scrollbox with a number of entries.
Scroll down until you see My Documents and select "display as a link"
