My computer no longer recognises my cd drive

After deleting an earlier version of AOL, my computer no longer recognises the cd drive. It does recognise a flash usb drive when it is inserted, which it then calls 'D' drive, which has normally been allocated to the cd drive.

Should I try to re-install windows XP (home) or is there an easier method of curing the fault?

Check that the leads and connections are firm. If the drive is listed in Device Manager, then Uninstall it and Reboot.

Windows should automatically Find New Hardware and install the basic CDROM driver (all that is required).

Hi Stuartli.
I have tried as you suggested but the problem remains the same. When I right click on properties the information is that there is a registry problem No.9. Have you any ideas?

I have cured the fault by using the 'Restore' programme.

Glad to hear that.
