My Computer locks the computer

Locked

I was doing a search in My Computer and noticed that I had spelt the file name wrongly so I clicked on "Stop". It stopped but it also stopped the system! So I had to ctrl-alt-del into task manager & restart.
Is this normal?
What search software do you experts use?

It is not normal. I use the normal routine of Start>Search using XP.

"Everything" click here is a brilliant little search utility, provided Windows is installed in an NTFS drive - it doesn't work with a FAT32 drive.

Wow! How does it do it so fast!
Thanks

Its speed seems to be something to do with the files in an NTFS drive being "indexed". I originally came across "Everything" as an alternative to the Search facility in Vista, which really is dreadful.

the moral is don't use anything Microsoft if you can avoid it.
We didn't get these problems in Unix
