If you have had it for"a number of years" are you sure it is up the minimum specification for XP which is hungry for computer resources way above 98 needs?

RAM in particular 98 was happy with say 64 or 128Mbs, XP can swallow as much as your old motherboard will allow.

I tried the tread given to me by SANTOS7 with no luck as it does not get as far as 39 or 37 sec. I know my mb is okay but i think the problem is during the installation process. I have cleaned my computer's hard drive and still the same problem.

What processor do you have?

Also how much space is available on the HDD

i have collected all this info if it helps.

Chip Type: AMD -K6 (tm) 3D
Processor Speed: 133 MHz
Memory (RAM): 128 MB
Hard Drive Capacity: 4 GB
Brand: TIME Primary Drive: CD-ROM

I have previously tried to install windows me and got message: SU0325 which i have found out this issue can be caused by a corrupted .cab file that has been copied to the hard disk. This corruption can be caused by a virus or by failing hardware, but is most likely to be caused by a scratched, dirty, or damaged CD-ROM.

This means nothing to me!!!!!!!!! please help. I wont give up i wont!!!!!!!!!!!
