my computer and explore not responding

  njmt7 09:36 30 Oct 07

I can open and look at folders and files in MY Computer and Explore but cannot get any menu or right click functions. When I try the programme stops responding. I'm on XP on a fairly old machine. Also when I try to use Add/Remove programmes it takes about half an hour to populate the list. No really, not a sitting at the keybord fidgeting half an hour a real one.

Hi, sounds like your PC needs a good clear out.
First, run Disc Cleanup including the Other Options tab and remove all but the most recent restore point.
Second, download C-Cleaner and run it and the Registry cleanup option. Or use another registry cleaner of your choice.
Third, go to Run, Msconfig, startup, and untick anything that is not realy required to be running at startup.
Forth, go to Start, programs, Startup, and delete anything in this folder.
Fifth, Run Defrag.
This should keep you busy for a while but might speed up your system.
