My adaptor not associating with Netgear Router

Ive just got a Netgear WGR614 router to set up wireless. Now I have set it up and it connects perfectly well to my housemates wireless laptop. However my computer connects for no longer than about half a minute before saying that it cannot associate with the access point. I can see the Network is available on the wireless networks list with a strong signal, I have a Linksy wireless adaptor. Can anyone help?

Try deleting the existing wireless 'profile' and then go through the procedure to "Connect" again.

I have a Netgear WGR614 and Linksys WUSB54GS USB Wireless Network Adapter which work reliably together in a desktop PC running either XP or Vista, but that same adapter when installed in my XP laptop won't connect to any of my routers - Netgear, Linksys or D-link - so there may be an incompatibility between the PC and Wireless Adapter.
