I want to copy a number of LPs to CDs
Can I use a turntable (with a preamp) connected directly to my PC (SB card), or will I need to connect them via my hi-fi system?

Many thanks.

Robin

I just used a turntable (with a preamp)you will have to try it and see what signal strength you get although I think you should be OK

Yes, pre-amp connected to line-in on your sound card should be fine.

I have an aged Technics outfit where the pre-amplifier is part of the main box.

The turntable cartridge alone doesn't produce enough oomph, so I had to use the headphone socket from the main output, and that called for some careful regulation of the volume.

Neither the Hi-Fi nor the computer is easily moved so there was rather a lot of connecting cable. No hum pick up, but the turntable had to be on an absorbent rug to avoid rumble! Not an elegant solution, but it worked.

Thank you for your help.

A pre-amp it is, then.

With apologies for the delay in responding,

Robin
