Music: best cheap way of recording/playing on PC?

Hi. Ignorant primary school teacher here.

Other teachers in my school want to record children's music compositions, so I need to purchase some sort of microphone(s) / music playing software.

I doubt that a single microphone which plugs into a USB port would be any good, but might be wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks :)

A basic read click here
It depends on what quality you want to achieve.
Read the last 4 paragraphs, you should buy a mixer like a Mackie, Behringer, etc. with as many channels as you can afford.

Or if your school assembly hall has a speaker system then there may be a line out socket from the amplifier of it. You could get a suitable cable and connect it to the Line-in on a PC and record it that way.
If you want something handy then click here is a USB powered pre-amp with enough connections and it costs £90. You get software with it but no mics.

And then there is your own idea - a single mic which plugs in to a USB port click here It costs £66 though.
