msn messenger – random pop up dialogues

I’ve got a bit of a problem with msn messenger, for no reason it opens (does not sign in) and shows a dialogue box with a message either advertising a porn site or computer software. I have no idea why this happens and it is starting to get a bit annoying.

I am using windows Xp, with the latest version of msn messenger and Norton anti virus 2002.

Any ideas of what is happening would be most appreciated.

have you got the XP Firewall turned on? Are you using BB or Dial Up? I have a home network and have adjusted the firewall settings in XP and now i'm free of these awful pop-ups. I just double click on the network settings in control panel, properties, advanced and firewall should be on there

rajeevk. Follow these instructions and you will rid of this nuisance for ever.
How to stop the Advertising through MSM Messenger On XP:

Open Control Panel. Click on Administrative Tools > Services. From the list, Highlight Messenger. Click on Stop. If you Double click on Messenger then you can
disable it.

Thanks for those instructions they seem to have worked.

You must Disable rather than Stop the service otherwise it will reappear next time you boot up.
