msmsgs.exe running unbidden at 99% of CPU

  Steve27 22:37 14 Feb 03

Every now and again my system (WXP Home)slows to a crawl when I check running processes in Task Manager the culprit is msmsgs.exe, which I think must be Microsoft Messenger. I have uninstall-ed said Messenger but it still keeps happening.

When it does I stop it running but its getting very irritating.

Any ideas

Isn't msmsgs.exe, Windows Messenger? Is that the one you uninstalled, Steve27? If so, which way did you uninstall it? Or see if this helps any click here

I had also removed windows messenger I wonder if it could be MSN explorer?

Have you tried any of the suggestions in the link I posted, Steve27?

Maj thanks for the link I checked the startup programs in msconfig and its not there though there is a messenger service that is not running do you think I should dissable it? I just wondered if anything else depended on it.

I have it disabled , Steve27, it's the rason why people get those Messenger Service, spam popups. I haven't noticed any problems since disabling it over a year ago.
