Hello ive been advised in the past to always use MSessentials as an antivirus software but things still seem to get through. Is it still reliable or are there more reliable free antivirus and firewall software that can replace. Like to hear different viewpoints and what is best? I have wins Vista on my PC desktop thank you.

MSE is a very reliable AV, I have used it from 'day one'! I also use MalwareBytes Pro, with Win7. Also am very careful as to my Surfing habits!

Your Vista firewall is ok but I disagree with Nontek (sorry) about MSE. I would go with Avast or AVG as free antivirus and also use the free or a one off payment for Malwarbytes antimalware ( agree with you there Nontek :) )

I also disagree with Nontek (which is unusual). MSE used to be good but is now ranked as one of the poorest.

Sorry Nontek.

I think it depends very much on your surfing habits

  rdave13 19:19 28 Dec 13

wee eddie, not so sure today. I searched for a font the other day, one site was a no-no but the other one looked ok until malwarebytes popped up with blocking two bad scripts and gave the ip addresses of the scripts that were ready to load off the site. Then went back to the same site the day after and the warnings had gone. I seriously think that if you 'safe search' as people say, you can still be caught out. This is dependant on the server's webmaster to control these things I know, but more and more websites are being affected I think. Just my humble opinion.

Found them in mbam log,

Even Microsoft have admitted that MSE is barely adequate

Avast is probably the best of the free Antivirus progs, back it up with Malwarebytes, Windows firewall is good enough unless you are still using XP

  rdave13 20:06 28 Dec 13

As soon as I typed the ip address 216.97.234.62 in the address bar Malwarebytes blocked it.
