MS Security updates

On my Vista machine I have set MS updates to notify me when there is an update and let me decide whether/when to download/install.
But there is an annoying feature - the latest list of "important" updates consists entirely of updates for programs that I don't have installed; eg I have MSOffice 2000 NOT MSOffice 2007; and I don't want to upgrade from IE7 to IE8. I've been ticking "Don't download" on both of these for months.
Does anyone know a way of preventing certain updates being offered?

Please be aware that the MS Office updates, though may not appear to be for your version, are necessary as MSO2000 will have some previous updates that depend on these.

One such update that depends on these is the 'Compatibility pack for the 2007 Office System' that usually gets installed by default for older versions of MSO (I also have this happening for my Office XP software which came out in 2001). The MSO2007 security updates being offered are for this compatibility update & not for MSO2000. G
