mp3/wma splitter and joiner software?

I want to make a composite mp3 file for adding set of pictures to music - in other words I want to takes snapshots of various mp3 or wma music tracks and neatly join them together to make one complete mp3 track lasting say 10 minutes.

Wondered if there was any free or cheap shareware out there that would do the job.

Thanks,
Nick.

You should find something useful there. I've not done this for a while, so you'd have to check 'em out yourself.

I've recently had cause to break down large .mp3 files into smaller components. Having had a play with a few progs., Direct WAV Mp3 Splitter by Piston Software was really very good. The pause detector is very efficient and you can check the result audibly and/or by comparing .mp3 fragments to known track running times prior to saving the split. The split .mp3s can then be renamed within the programme with the names being in a user chosen format. Excellent.
