how do i transfer my mp3 files on my pc onto a cd which i can play on my car and home cd player.what sort of cd do i need to buy. Are there free softwares to enable me do this? if not what is the best software on the market.

you can use normal CD-R's. All you need is a burning rom such as NERO or Easy CD Creator. This should have come with your PC or CDwriter drive.

Open the software and select create an audio disc. You then tell it which MP3s to use and it should sort it for you
