Mozilla Firefox won't let me download...

  slysi100 13:04 23 Apr 09

I'm using Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.7 with windows Vista and recently found that it won't let me download anything. The following error message appears;

" C:\users\myname\downloads\file.exe could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that file.
Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location".

Now, as far as I'm aware I haven't changed the settings of this folder at all. I've tried saving to a different folder but get the same error message.

I'm also having trouble installing any new software, just pops up with an error message halfway through.

Any help, much appreciated.

It appears that I have to delete the following file; /Users/(your user name)/Library/Preferences/

But I can't find this file anywhere. I also get the impression its a Mac related problem but I'm using a PC with Windows Vista.

It's driving me nuts.

Try this...
Start>Search>All Files and Folders> Cut and paste or type this in the top slot...
Click search. If that fole is on your PC this should find it.
