This morning when I started my PC and opened Thunderbird, it opened in a format I have never seen before.there is no header bar where i can select "Get New mail" or write etc

The in boxex of my various mails are all different, one now hold all the old mail going back to last year, another has nothing and i am getting a message all the time that there is no mail on any ofthe servers. This is a Majoj problemas I know there are at least 20 mails on one server and at least 6 on another. I just cannot get anything.
does anyone have any ideas. As far as Iam aware the onlything that has changed is that as of this morning I aam now on British summer time and the PC automatically corrected for this as it always does.
I have done a restoe, restoring to the registry of yesterday.

Have you tried reinstalling Thunderbird over the top of the existing copy? Your emails should be preserved, but it would be safer to copy them to a safe location.
