moving wma tracks

I copied a music cd onto my hard drive with wmp.I'm selling the laptop so I want to copy the music files from the one I'm selling to my new one.I transferred all the tracks onto a portable hard drive and then tried to play them on my new machine but i got an error message. It said an update was required to play the files then after searching on the net said the update wasn't available.
Any suggestions.
