Moving Programmes from C Drive to D Driv ????

I haven't needed to do this until now but I now have a full C Drive and an empty D Drive. I read an article sometime in the last 6 months which said something like. Right click on the programme, Go to Properties. Go to Move and highlight D Drive. This doesn't work so would be grateful if some kind person could point me in the right direction

I think progs leave files in registry etc to they don't work by moving from drive to drive. The only way would be to clone that patition.
