Mouse and Screen Freeze

In the last couple of days my machine has developed a fault. The mouse cursor stops moving intermittently and then jumps across the screen at random. Then on occasions it jumps to the edge of the screen and freezes completely. The key board is also out of action at this point althought the screen still seems to be active and the programmes are running. I have to reboot and everything returns to normal. I have scanned for viruses but found nothing.
I am using XP pro.
Any ideas?

I had this problem some time ago. Do any of your devices show any problems? (yellow question marks etc.,?)

Are you using cordless keyboard and mouse, have you checked the batteries?

Thanks for the responses.
Mouse and keyboard are not cordless.
I tried the spybot scan but no improvement.
There is one device not turning on but I don't think that is the problem.
As I need the machine for business I cannot spend any more time on the problem so I have had to hand it in to my local repair shop.
I will let you know what they find.

Purchase of a new keyboard and mouse seems to have solved the problem!
