I bought a new DELL optical mouse for my HP PC and it wont work no matter what USB port I plug it into. My old packard bell optical mouse works ok and I never had to install any drivers etc..

Any ideas?

Have you tried it on another pc?

Is it new? If so ,return it.

It works fine on other PC's. The problem must be with my PC but I dont know what to check. It is a plug and play mouse but when I plug it in, the Found New Hardware Wizard is displayed asking to install software.

I noticed from your other thread that you're running SP1, try updating it to SP2 then your problem should be gone,I suppose.

"the Found New Hardware Wizard is displayed asking to install software."

And have you let the Wizard run and install XP's own drivers for the mouse?

Jackcoms

If I let the wizard run it asks for a disk. If I choose "Install from a list or specific location", when the wizard searches it says it "Cannot install this hardware" and The data is invalid.
