PC Gateway,Win98se, Pro intel pentium III,
Motherboard Intel Warm Springs WS440BX,

On this pc we have a Logitech Trackball mouse,
it worked ok no problems when working in full mode,(when all the drivers have loaded.)

Went into safe mode no ps/2 mouse found, so uninstalled Logitech trackball software.
Installed Microsoft intel mouse, still no mouse found when in safe mode.

Installed windows again, oversystem files, ran safe mode still no PS/2 mouse found.

Have tried four different mice, they all work in windows,(when all the drivers have loaded) but not in safe mode.

No error`s found when running SFC.
Checked out the BIOS, that`s ok,
Ran AVG system clean,
Ran Ad-aware system ok.

Your idea`s are welcome.

PS do you think I should ask TOM out of TOM & JERRY, He might find the mouse,

Are these rodents plugged into a PS2 socket?

Safe mode is loade absolutely minimum, no drivers so I don't think any mouse will work in it (I've never had a mouse work in safe mode)

Mouse in a PS2 will work in Safe Mode.

Yes, with this board you can put your rodent and keyboard into either of the PS/2 connectors,

Sorry about Tom & Jerry bit,

Whom next Microsoft.

This is a Gateway PC, dated about 2001, checked Intel site, no motherboard drivers, just sound card drivers, and mouse drivers, the mouse driver has been installed but still the same story.
