mouse not activating buttons

  texteditor 13:03 14 Jun 10

I have just received my medion laptop, medion running vista, back from repair and very often the buttons do not respond to left mouse clicks.
Technical support said it was asoftware problem and to use the recovery disc to go back to factory defaults, I did this and the fault is back, any suggestions?

If your touchpad driver has settings, check them. I know mine does. It's usually in the windows control panel. Sometimes an advanced option in the mouse option.

Otherwise try reinstalling your touchpad driver.

Try USB mouse for a while.

Do you mean mouse or touchpad?

1) Touchpad: Do you have a (hidden)icon on the taskbar near the clock? Click up arrow icon to see hidden (W7 dunno if same in Vista)

See if Synaptics Touchpad thingy is there or similar.

2) Mouse: Try another mouse. £2.99 from supermarket?? if you don't have one.

If you can spare a USB port, get a wireless mouse.

I use two Logitech ones on two systems. (£12-20, depending on offers, Tesco, Currys, PC World)
Cannot stand corded mice now.

Use an old upturned tablemat, the cork surface, as a mouse mat. Or a newspaper.

Or Control Panel, Device Manager if you don't have Synaptics

Neither mouse(radio)nor touchpad work, when problem goes away, both work.
