Mouse has started to freeze coming out of standby

I always put the computer in standby when I leave it a while and then hit any key to start the computer again.

Since about 2 or 3 weeks ago, when I hit a key to bring the computer back on, 7 out of 10 times the mouse has frozen.

Any advice please would be welcome to cure this problem.

yes its got a usb end to it the has to be put in the mouse slot.
perhaps it not the mouse freezing but the whole screen.
All i know is you cannot move the mouse.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Win XP? Done the usual virus scan/antispyware/disk check etc?

When I hit any key from standby the computer comes on but with the mouse or the screen frozen.
It doesn't do anything after that.
Even when I press ctrl alt del.

try running memtest for as long as you can.
ive had the same problem when i had a stick of ram playing up.

But what is memtest.

i forgot to say that sometimes the mouse pointer is not on the screen when i come out of standby and sometimes it is but does not move ,and some times it is ok.
