Mouse Driver for Vista

My daughter just bought a notebook mouse for her new Dell Inspiron laptop. The mouse is a Targus but unfortunately, despite the packaging claiming it is Vista Ready, we just can't get the bugger to work. Each time we boot up the computer we get the Found New Hardware bubble but then, after a bit of messing around, the PC fails to find the driver within itself or on the net.
We also have this problem with a number of usb memory sticks.
Any ideas?

If the driver for the mouse did not come with it, and generic drivers don't work, try to identify the mouse and check its web site for drivers.

Thanks for advice - said mouse didn't come with a driver disk and the generics within Vista clearly don't.
I have checked targus' own site but nothing is listed so I have sent them a mail to their technical department but was hoping that one of the community out there might have a solution.

It's odd that it doesn't work with a generic driver but I think the next step is as you have done, by trying to identify it. Good luck!
